big money is flowing into france’s ai infrastructure. with the country’s nuclear energy advantage, global investors are betting big on france as the next hub for energy-hungry data centers.
the latest big move? the united arab emirates, through mgx (the tech arm of their sovereign wealth fund), is putting 30 to 50 billion euros into building a massive ai data center in france. we don’t know exactly where yet, but we do know its planned power capacity — 1 gigawatt, equivalent to a nuclear reactor. that’s on another level.
but the emiratis aren’t the only ones making moves. brookfield, the canadian asset manager, just announced a 20 billion euro investment in france by 2030, with 15 billion euros set aside for building data centers. if reports are right, cambrai could be the next big ai infrastructure hub.
meanwhile, french companies are doubling down too. iliad (which owns free, scaleway, and kyutai) is pouring 3 billion euros into ai, boosting its european data center capacity. french ai startup mistral, fresh off launching its assistant “le chat,”…
